The Gash Club

2025

Set 100 years in the future, GASH performs an illegal cabaret while attempting to understand our present through an inherited diary. The black comedy draws parallels between contemporary politics and an imagined future in which feminist and queer rights have been reversed.

Humour, satire and absurdity come together in Charlotte Gash’s shows. In The Gash Club, she looks to the future whilst telling stories of current events: the artist’s great-great-granddaughter has transformed the basement of the Forum Stadtpark into an illegal cabaret venue. She and the audience have sneaked in to watch one of the monthly performances and to hide from the tyranny of a regime that has banned cabaret. Using cardboard props, costumes and stories, Gash’s descendant explains her situation and draws eerie parallels with the past – our present.
